    The Campus
Ball State University in Muncie Indiana offers a plethora of academic opportunities. As an integral part of the community and economy, Balls State creates innovation in the state by taking part in projects and research. Groundbreaking research is created by the use of top-notch facilities with emerging technology and media. Before incorporating PrinterOn’s Campus Printing Solution Bradley D. Faust, Assistant Dean for library, was looking for a printing solution that would grant students access to Wi-Fi offered in the library. In order to do this, the Printing Solution had to show students an easy to use interface, integrate with other existing cost recovery systems, and require students to authenticate before printing. “Above all,” states Faust, “we need to cater to our students. Printing is an absolute necessity for students and it is essential that we offer a convenient, reliable solution.”

    The Challenge
Students began bringing their personal laptops into the library. As a result, “the IT staff started to receive more questions from students about how they could print their documents - word, web content etc. - from their own laptops to the library printers” recalls Faust. “We had no way to accommodate this need.”

    The Solution
The PrinterOn Campus Printing Solution (CPS) is a suite of technologies that make student printing easy and lower the overall cost of print services.

    The Campus Printing Solution
By providing a website for student printing without the installation of print drivers, staff and students can select the printer they want, upload documents, choose the number of copies, and submit to the printer with ease. Due to this system requiring less help from the staff, the overall cost of student printing is significantly lower. With access control, auditing and print management integration, the Campus Printing Solution easily fits into any institutions environmental and fiscal print less initiatives.

    The PrinterOn Benefits
“With CPS, users must be inside or have VPN access to the campus domain. This controls who is using the printers and contains printing costs-make us very happy” states Faust. “CPS enables us to track print usage by individual users or particular demographics and identify high usage trends. Last year, students would print a lot of flyers for parties, garage sales etc.” recalls Faust. “Year to date, we already see 30% decrease in wasted printing over last.” BSU visitors can also have controlled access to the Campus Printing Solution. They access the wireless ‘guest’ network, which does not include access to the Campus Printing Solution, but the visitors are able to purchase a daily guest account which will grant them access to the printing resources. “The Campus Printing Solution is a worthwhile, valuable printing solution - particularly at the price points,” concludes Faust. “It works very well and it meets our needs. I would not hesitate to recommend this solution to other departments, faculties or even other institutions.”
